The decision to move forward very often seems to not really be a decision, but kind of a necessity. When something is clear, it is clear. Sure, we can create a story that tells us about all of the data that made the decision possible. We can choose a frame that shows us how we made it happen. But that’s really inserting ourselves where we don’t fully belong.

I sit, and look at the steps from the other side, and see: the decision was what brought me here, not the other way around. In that way, even something that doesn’t work was obviously a step in the right direction.
